At approximately 2:00pm on Sunday afternoon the Putnam Lake Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire at 2 Thompson Road in Putnam Lake. While enroute, units were updated that there was a vehicle fire in the driveway of 2 Thompson Road on fire close to the structure. 23-1-1, Chief James Gagliardo Jr, was the first unit on scene confirming the vehicle fire and assuming Thompson Command. Thankfully, upon the chief's arrival he witnessed a good Samaritan utilizing a garden hose to keep the fire at bay so that it didn't intensify enough to extend to the structure that was close by. Engine 23-2-4 along with attack tanker 23-2-5 arrived on scene shortly after, making quick work of extinguishing the fire. The fire was determined to be a mechanical problem while the owner was operating the vehicle. No injuries were reported.
