FDNY Lt. Ambelas

By President Robert Schulze
July 14, 2014

The officers and members of the Putnam Lake Fire Department would like to express our sincere apologies for the misspelling of FDNY Lt. Gordon Ambelas name on our sign in front of our fire station. Lt. Ambelas was a true hero who, on July 5th, 2014, gave the ultimate sacrifice fighting a fire in a high-rise building for the City of New York. Unfortunately on Thursday night, our department sign was tampered with by whom we can assume was a former disgruntled member of our department whom was recently dismissed. This misspelled sign was posted onto social media bashing our department, members, and Chief.

Our sign crew works hard to make sure that the public can view our sign for important community messages. We would never intentionally misspell a name of a fallen firefighter; in no way did we mean any disrespect to the memory of a Lt. Ambelas. We apologize for the misunderstanding and any hurt this may have caused to Lt. Ambelas, FDNY, and their loved ones. Thank you for your understanding in this matter.

Sincerely,

Rob Schulze
President
Putnam Lake Fire Department
